My Story

Unity of body and mind

I believe in the unity of body and mind. I have a particular interest in body-oriented approaches, exploring how experience is held in the body and working gently to support regulation and connection. I benefited a lot from paying attention to this bodily felt sense in my own therapy and in the workshops I attended. I continuously learn about how to integrate the embodied awareness, felt sense into my practice.

My dissertation explored how psychotherapists integrate embodied awareness when working with trauma memory. Through this research I became increasingly interested in how the body can hold valuable information about our experiences. I continue to develop this area of practice through training in Jan Winhall’s Felt Sense Polyvagal Model, which integrates Eugene Gendlin’s Focusing on felt sense with contemporary understanding of nervous system regulation.

My path - A Journey of Transitions

I did not take a direct route to this work; I followed a journey that was often "off the course," yet I kept the flame alive through my interests and curiosity. My journey contains many transitions including countries, careers and personal achievements and losses. Looking back, I can see that the seeds of this path were always present — through my interests, creative pursuits, and a growing curiosity about the inner life. Gradually I found my path in therapeutic work, which is deeply in line with my values of of listening, empathy and connection.

Living Between Cultures

Originally from Turkey and a Dubliner since 2003, I have firsthand experience of the quiet complexity of living between cultures. This journey has shaped my sensitivity to issues of belonging, identity, and the transitions that occur when moving between different cultures. I understand how it is possible for life to appear functional on the outside while internally something may feel out of balance as you navigate the unique stresses of the migrant experience.

From the Corporate World to the Therapy Practice

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I worked over twenty-five years in the corporate world and also volunteered for over five years for an arts organisation. This background gives me a practical understanding of the responsibilities, expectations, and high-pressure environments many professionals and leaders face. I bring this professional experience—including skills in change management, analytical thinking, and relationship building—into my practice. While in the corporate sector, I always felt drawn to ways of working that values listening, presence, and human connection. With my lived experience in the corporate sector, I can now offer a grounded space for those navigating career challenges.

Outside of work, I like going to concerts, movies, theatre, dance performances as I find all creative expressions very inspiring. I also love attending yin yoga and chi-gong as a way to ground myself.
